A Humanities students from UIC Barcelona has been awarded a university grant by the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation
Blanca Gallostra, a student from the Faculty of Humanities, who from next year will begin a double degree in Law, has been awarded one of the grants offered by the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation for students with the best average marks. Blanca was one of 255 people who obtained this award for their effort.
“My upper-secondary studies went very well and I thought I would try my luck by applying for this grant” admits Blanca, who says that in fact she was not expecting to win the award. Many of the other students were not expecting to be awarded when they went to collect it at Món Sant Benet (Sant Fruitós de Bages), where the event was presided over by the Councillor for Business and Knowledge, Jordi Baiget, and the President of the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation, Germán Ramón-Cortés.
The Foundation received a total of 2.058 applications from boys and girls from all over Catalonia. In terms of their origin, 69% of the students who applied came from Barcelona, 12% from Tarragona, 10% from Lleida and 9% from Girona.
This call for grants - according to the Foundation - provides recognition for the skills of young people who have high average marks–of 9,350 out of 10–, which demonstrates that they are excellent students with a desire to succeed.
Apart from Blanca, Martí Casal, an Audiovisual Communication student from UIC Barcelona, was also awarded this grant.
