José M. Mateo, the general manager of Cargill España: “Being passionate about your job gives you the chance to grow and develop.”

The general manager of Cargill for Spain and Portugal, José María Mateo, and the head of recruitment at Nestlé, María Castelló, gave a session to Business Management and Administration (ADE) students as part of the Human Resources course.

Cargill, a leading worldwide supplier of food, agriculture, financial and insurance products and services, is collaborating with the "Alliance for Youth" initiative promoted by Nestlé to address youth unemployment in Europe. The speakers stressed the importance to companies of people with talent – people not just with educational qualifications but who are quick-thinkers, with initiative, curious, able to work as a team, and passionate about their work. They explained that “these days we work in very diverse and multicultural environments which is very enriching. But we shouldn’t forget the ethical dimension of all those who need to be considered in all company decisions".

The company needs to develop their employees’ sense of commitment and engagement. Remuneration should be fair, but it is not an enduring incentive. Companies need to offer challenges, goals and an interesting professional career. This is the only way that employees will share in the company’s mission and values. These are some of the ideas that the guest speakers shared with the students.
