Josep Lluís i Ginovart, Alberto T. Estévez and Judith Urbano visit the Venice Biennale

UIC Barcelona reinforces its presence at an event which, in this edition, involved the participation of students from the School of Architecture

From 12-14 October, the director of the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, Josep Lluís i Ginovart, visited the 16th edition of the Venice Biennale. He travelled there alongside UIC Barcelona professor Alberto T. Estévez and the dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Judith Urbano.

In this edition, Alberto T. Estévez took part in the Spanish Pavilion with a installation that presented the concept of “biodigital” as a cornerstone of architecture of the future. Likewise, Karl Chu, a lecturer from the Master’s Degree in Biodigital Architecture, contributed once again to the Hong Kong Pavilion with an installation that consisted of a series of two-metre-tall white tower models, digitally designed and fabricated based on the theme Vertical Fabric: Density in Landscape.

The visit reinforces the presence of UIC Barcelona in what is, undoubtedly, the most important international event in the field of architecture. This the 16th edition of the Biennale featured numerous representatives from the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture. Lecturer Estel Ortega, for example, served as co-curator of the Catalan Pavilion, which included an exhibit featuring Final Degree Projects by students Laura Pérez, Cristina Coll, Carlota Aluja, Oriol Anglada and Marta Delgado. According to the director, “For us it is an honour to have been invited to the Biennale, and our presence as a school is undoubtedly the result of the work Alberto T. Estévez started twenty years ago. Few schools of architecture have such as diverse and active participation”.
