Lecturer Antonio Vaillo will direct the construction of the Conservatory of Music and Dance of Castelló

Vaillo + Irigaray Architects, led by Antonio Vaillo, lecturer at UIC Barcelona, and BAAS Arquitectura, led by former lecturer Jordi Badia, have won the competition to design the Conservatori Superior de Música y Dansa de Castelló de la Plana with their ‘Campus’ proposal

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Valencian Government has chosen the project ‘Campus’ for the Espai de la Música de Castelló where the new conservatory will be built. The project presented by studios of UIC Barcelona School of Architecture lecturer Antonio Vaillo and architect Jordi Badia has been chosen among the twelve proposals submitted by nationally and internationally renowned firms.

The ‘Campus’ proposal, promoted by BAAS Arquitectura and Vaillo + Irigaray Architects, presents a project that places the conservatory buildings at each end, leaving an interior space for a garden where students can connect and interact. This green area is intended to emulate campuses of universities such as Cambridge and Oxford and will allow the celebration of concerts and outdoor activities.

The new Conservatory connects the Blasco Ibáñez and Karl Raimund Popper boulevards diagonally, creating a continuous pedestrian route and connecting the Auditorium, the Conference Centre and the surrounding park. The building will have a sloping roof that begins in front of the Courts of Justice building and rises slightly to conceal the residential buildings. It offers an elevated façade to the city that allows the best solar exposure for the interior garden.

Antonio Vaillo is a head of Projects in the second year of the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture and also leads the architectural firm Vaillo + Irigaray Architects.
