Lecturer David Baena, speaker at the EUNIC Japan Symposium in Tokyo

On 8 and 9 July, David Baena, professor in the Area of Construction in the ESARQ - School of Architecture at UIC Barcelona, alongside Toni Casamor, took part in a series of conferences and workshops at the international symposium Beyond Sustainable Architecture and Smart City: Re-Humanisation of Urban Spaces, in Tokyo, Japan.

The aim of the symposium was to explore the role of architecture and urbanism in the future of Smart Cities by analysing issues such as economic growth and revitalisation, energy, ecology and technology, immigration and politics.

David Baena and Toni Casamor presented the work of their studio, BCQ arquitectura Barcelona, as an example of how architecture can help strike a balance between urban space, landscape and sustainability.

The event was organised by EUNIC Japan, a European Union network of National Institutes for Culture, and the Tokyo branch of the Instituto Cervantes.
