Lecturer Diego Navarro and alumnus Anna Naomi, selected to participate in the 63rd edition of ‘Temps de Flors’ in Girona

The winning installation occupied a void in the city’s medieval wall

UIC Barcelona School of Architecture lecturer Diego Navarro and former School student Anna Naomi Amano were chosen to take part in the 63rd edition of the “Temps de Flors” festival, which took place in Girona from 12-20 May.

The submitted project is one of over 200 installations displayed during the most recent edition of the festival, which featured 157 venues around the city. Their intervention was targeted at a small crevice in the city’s urban fabric, “a residual space magnified by the presence of the historical wall”, explained the lecturer.

The aim of the installation was to emphasise the space’s vertical nature, both in terms of geometry and layout. “The coloured strips hanging 6 metres above the ground and the mirror at its base encourage onlookers to look up and admire the height and depth of its narrow walls. The floral and plant elements positioned on top also complement the wall’s composition. This way, the whole installation seems to float between the wall”, he explains.

“Temps de Flors” is organised by the Girona City Council in cooperation with civil entities and has become the city’s most popular festival. Each year it attracts thousands of people and turns Girona into a spectacle of colour with floral installations set up throughout the city.
