Lunet renews its agreement with UIC Barcelona for a grants fund for refugee students
UIC Barcelona has renewed its agreement with Lunet Solidario for a further year. The agreement is an initiative set up by Lunet Facility Service, involving the donation of €9,000 to the university’s grants fund. The grant will be awarded to Syrian student Mohammad Jamal Abo Ora, who is currently taking a Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry.
“This grant saved my life” confessed the student in an interview with the Betevé television channel, a few months ago. “I am very happy to wake up every day and know that I’m going to university to work with my classmates and do something that I enjoy so much”.
The grants fund for refugee students is an initiative set up by the university along with Lunet in line with the vocation to serve society both institutions share, to help to alleviate the drama experienced by refugees seeking asylum in Europe. Convinced that only education will be able to reconstruct the countries that suffer the effects of violence, UIC Barcelona set up the programme during the 2015/2016 academic year.
Lunet Solidario project is an initiative for solidarity set up by the Lunet Facility Service which supports projects that work in cooperation with organisations it shares values with, such as solidarity, equality and respect.
