Marimon and Berbegal hold two seminars on research methods

The seminars analysed the application of structural equation models to business research through the use of EQS software and an introduction to qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) with fsQCA software.

Frederic Marimon, full professor and vice-dean of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, and Dr Jasmina Berbegal, lecturer at the same faculty, held two seminars for researchers and lecturers at the university on research methods.

Marimon explained the application of structural equation models to business research using EQS software. This seminar reviewed theoretical aspects of structural equation modelling (SEM). Afterwards, practical details about the use of specific EQS software were explained. The aim of this seminar was to allow the participants to gain a working knowledge of how to work with a database and evaluate the model proposed by the researcher.

Dr Berbegal also held a seminar to give an introduction to qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) methods. This introduction looked into the theoretical grounding of QCA, its objective, as well as determining the situations in which it is suitable to apply it. Through the use of practical cases, she explained how to prepare the database and how to analyse the results. The software used was fsQCA.
