Mathias Simon and Paolo Ragazzi, fourth- and second-year students, respectively, in the Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy, took part as speakers in the 10th Conference for Physiotherapy Students and Professionals at the Miguel Hernández University, which took place from 14-16 March in the Alicante Medical Association’s Convention Centre. 

 

The two Anatomy residents were chosen to present the conclusions of the projects in which they are involved and which were directed by Dr Albert Pérez and Dr Carlos López de Celis, both lecturers in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Fourth-year student Mathias Simon presented both the results of his Final Degree Project and a recently published literature review. “Both projects focus on the effects of treating gastrocnemius muscle trigger points”, explains Simon, who went on to say that, “On the one hand, my Final Degree Project is a clinical study of the impact on neuromuscular response, physical qualities and pain following treatment. While, on the other, the systematic review of the literature published on this issue helped broaden my knowledge of these trigger points”. 

 

For his part, Paolo Ragazzi presented the results of a study entitled “Comparison between PNF stretching and foam rollers on hamstring flexibility”. According to Ragazzi, “This conference has given me the chance to see a world that for me was completely unknown. I’ve been able to see how a conference works in person and test my skills in both presenting and defending a Final Degree Project”.
