Núria Masip, winner of the FCRI’s “Describe your thesis in 4 minutes” competition
The health sciences doctoral student wins first prize in the fourth edition of the competition organised by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI)
UIC Barcelona doctoral student Núria Masip has been named winner of the Catalan competition “Describe your thesis in 4 minutes”, organised by the FCRI. The competition’s final round took place on Tuesday 22 June and was attended by doctoral students from twelve Catalan universities. This victory represents a second consecutive win in this competition for UIC Barcelona.
Masip described her thesis in a presentation titled “Don’t stop me now” in just four minutes, in which she spoke about the atypical CDK6-cyclin I complex as a new piece of the puzzle needed to cure cancer. Her task was to present her thesis using simple language that is accessible to any audience, which was evaluated positively by the jury who qualified Núria Masip, representative of UIC Barcelona, as the first-place winner.
The jury for this year’s competition included Josep Ribas, secretary general of the Inter-university Council of Catalonia; Purificación Barceló, scientific journalist for Catalunya Ràdio; Zoila Babot, head of Communication and Open Science at the Centre for Research in Agricultural Studies (CRAG); Francisco Aguado, R&D director for Boehringer Ingelheim, and Jordi Portabella, general manager of the FCRI.
The call aims to encourage the junior research community to publicise and disseminate the research they generate at university and to promote citizen access to scientific knowledge. The competition also aims to instil in doctoral students the importance of popularising science and disseminating scientific culture.
The FCRI organised the fourth edition of this competition together with twelve Catalan universities, with support from the Generalitat de Catalunya and in collaboration with Movistar Centro.
