Nursing and Medicine students take part in the 6th edition of Interprofessional Learning Week

For a period of two weeks, third-year students from the bachelor’s degrees in Medicine and Nursing had the opportunity to take a first-hand look at what their daily life will be like as health professionals.

According to Pablo Durán, a third-year student in the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, “gaining work experience with my colleagues from Medicine gave us a chance to share experiences, thoughts and decisions with the doctors I’ll be working side-by-side with during my career. Coming up against the situations that we will encounter in the workplace in such a real manner has helped me see my classmates in a different light.” “I think this type of work experience encourages a closer bond between doctors and nurses and teaches us to work together to provide our future patients high-quality care and excellent personal assistance”, concluded Durán.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has participated in Interprofessional Learning Week since 2012, with a view to educating future doctors and nurses through hands-on experience. This initiative provides students the chance to develop their cross-disciplinary competences and is coordinated by Dr Encarna Rodríguez, Dr Montserrat Virumbrales and Dr Jordi Castillo. This edition saw the participation of 76 Nursing students and 100 Medicine students, who were able to put their knowledge to the test in real-life situations thanks to the cutting-edge facilities available in the Comprehensive Centre for Advanced Simulation.
