Over 200 young people take part in the 7th Health Promotion Day organised by the Department of Nursing

Health Promotion Day, intended for students currently completing their upper secondary studies or a higher vocational education and training programme in Catalonia, took place on the Sant Cugat Health Campus with support from the Government of Catalonia’s Department of Health and the Sant Cugat City Council, in partnership with SEM (Medical Emergencies) and the Association of Traffic Accident Prevention (APAT).

For yet another year, the Department of Nursing taught young students the importance of prevention and first aid. Based on a theatrical representation, in which a group of young people pretended to have drunk more than they should have, students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing showed attendees how to deal with a number of situations relating to the event’s central theme: “What happens when you drink too much”. Participants took part in five practical workshops, which included cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques and first aid, alcohol and drugs, bullying and abuse and a simulation workshop.

This activity is highly innovative, as the undergraduate students are responsible for training the teenagers in basic techniques that could be used to help other young people in everyday situations. This edition was supported by over 170 volunteers from the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Moreover, the roughly 2,000 individuals who have taken part in the event in the past seven editions confirm the success of the initiative.

The Department of Nursing also wanted to attract upper secondary and higher vocational education and training teachers to Health Promotion Day with a workshop designed specifically for them, which took place in March. The 5th edition of this event featured the participation of 47 teachers from schools around Catalonia.
