Pablo Casacuberta, director and writer: “The work of the cultural manager is essential for society”
We recently interviewed the two time winner of the National Prize for Literature of Uruguay, film director, author of nine science fiction novels, and a book of art and photography at UIC Barcelona
As part of the Master's Degree in Cultural Management, on 22 and 23 February Pablo Casacuberta gave a workshop and conference for the students of the Faculty of Humanities titled "The Trojan Horse. The intersection between science and contemporary culture”.
Casacuberta shared the conclusions of his research with the students, dealing with how most contemporary topics are presented in disguise, as what he defines a “Trojan horse”. He then examined how cognitive, perceptive and neural aspects participate in our decisions when choosing the different cultural activities we consume.
His research unites neuroscience and culture; as a value proposition for society, Casacuberta highlights the impact that this combination has on coexistence and peace: “We all have our skills and shortcomings when it comes to interpreting reality, so that reality is only completed with the picture that another person has. This premise drives us to be more tolerant and to create a more democratic, more diverse mosaic with more voices. To the extent that people understand that the generation of culture is a cognitive act, made by beings who have a certain physiology and who have certain limitations, it makes us more receptive and our interactions more humble” explained the expert.
In addition to being a knowledge transfer conference, the session, was also proposed as a workshop in which students could share ideas with the artist and cultural manager.
