Profesor Gilabert gives a lecture at the CCCB on the way in which spectators view theatre

Dr Gaston Gilabert, a professor at the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Humanities, gave a lecture at the Barcelona Centre of Contemporary Culture (CCCB) on the way spectators view contemporary theatre.

The lecture, included as part of the CCCB conference on "the view of the spectator", was followed by a very interesting discussion generated by questions from the audience regarding the figure of the spectator.

During his presentation, Profesor Gilabert spoke of the theatrical spectator as an "essential element of the show". He also addressed the “cognitive and emotional reactions" experienced by the spectator during a theatrical performance.

Gilabert went on to speak about the horizons of expectation of the spectator and the aesthetic driving force that makes us want to go to the theatre: “what pleasures it provides and how to educate spectators in the way to view it”.

The CCCB Conference put forward a reflection on the essential role of the spectator in any artistic manifestation through the views and experiences of two professionals from the fields of theatre and contemporary art: our own Professor Gaston Gilabert and Rosa Pera.
