A professor from Hong Kong shows how to teach English through drama
Second-year students from the Faculty of Education were treated to a very different English class to those they normally take. They took part in a workshop entitled "Dramatic English", led by guest lecturer from Hong Kong Man Cheung at UIC Barcelona.
During the workshop, the instructor presented the innovations pertinent to his work, techniques used by agencies that prepare musicals and plays around the world. The central idea is to keep students engaged at all times and, in doing so, make learning real, meaningful and enjoyable.
During the session, Professor Cheung spoke about the importance of seeking new ways of teaching that capture students' attention. "We don't have bad students with a low capacity for learning", the lecturer pointed out. "The students get bored, and that's why they lose interest. Children learn quickly and intuitively. Our mission as educators is to provide them what they need to discover meaningful knowledge".
