Professor Josep Serrano participates in the organising committee at a study event on Francesc Maspons
Dr Josep Serrano, a Professor from the Faculty of Law, participated as a secretary of the organising committee at a study event on Francesc Maspons (1872-1966). The event was organised by the Catalan Society for Legal Studies.
The professor presided over the table in the afternoon at which issues such as the Catalan concept of the right to self-determination, excursions and education related to the work and philosophy of Maspons as well as current issues in Catalan law connected to the work of Maspons Anglasell were discussed.
Francesc Maspons i Anglasell was a full professor of civil law at the University of Oñati (Guipúzcua) (1897). As President of the Academy for Jurisprudence and Legislation in Barcelona (1918-20) he undertook memorable campaigns in defence of Catalan law and against the reform of notarial law. As Director of the Office for Legal Studies in the Commonwealth of Catalonia, he published various works including Institucions de dret català (1921) and Texts de dret català antic. He was also President of the Catalan Excursions Centre (1927-31) and the Catalan Society for Legal, Economic and Social Studies (1955-58). He was an honorary member of the Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation in Madrid and of the Codifying Committee for Catalan Law. He belonged to the advisory committee for national minorities in the Society for Nations and was Vice-President of the Executive Committee for the Congress of Minority Nations (1931) and President of the Association Internationale pour l’Étude des Droits des Minorités in the Hague.
