Inés Jordán, from Canigó school in Barcelona, won the 13th edition of the Pre-University Competition organised by UIC Barcelona, with a project entitled “Origami in the classroom”. Twenty-two of them were finalists, and there were three winners.

The second person classified was David Vega, from Bell-Lloc del Pla (Girona) school, for his project entitled “From Hollywood to the Costa Brava”. Finally, the third prize was awarded to Pol Cantarell, from Frederic Mistral-Técnico Eulalia school, for his project entitled “Study of the influence of mild dehydration on cognitive performance”.

The jury, consisting of academics from UIC Barcelona and presided over by the Vice-Rector of Academic Organisation and International Relations, Jaume Armengou, allocated the three first prizes according to the importance and level of interest of the projects and their content. Armengou explained that this competition rewards academic excellence and the students’ competences are evaluated depending on how the content is ognaised, the students’ ability to analyse, their oral expression skills and the achievement of their objectives.

The research projects presented at the 13th edition of this competition came from various schools from all the Catalan provinces, and the 150 projects that were presented covered all types of questions out of the various subject areas.

The top ten students won a study grant that will cover 100% of their first year tuition fees so they can take any degree programme at UIC Barcelona next year. The overall winner, who would like to study Humanities and Business Administration and Management in English, was also given a laptop.

The competition received support from the Banco Sabadell Foundation, and their adjunct director participated in the prize-giving ceremony on Thursday.
