The top-quartile journal, which has an impact factor of 2.467, publishes papers that advance knowledge of the relationship between the structure, properties and functions of all kinds of materials. It has several sections, including energy materials, nanomaterials, functional materials, structural materials, and materials with health applications. Dr Gil will be editor of this latter section. 

The journal’s content covers all manner of materials: metals and alloys, ceramics, polymers, compound materials, nanomaterials and functional materials, including dentistry materials. The journal also publishes papers on the physical and chemical properties, degradation and characterisation of materials.

Based in Basel (Switzerland), the journal, which is monthly, published its first issue in 2008.
