The aim of this agreement is to promote a new culture to protect intellectual and industrial property rights. The agreement was specifically based on cooperation between Red Points and the European Master’s Degree in Business Law and Intellectual and Industrial Property offered by UIC Barcelona.

Through this agreement, students from both master’s degrees will be able to undertake work experience in the Catalan IT security company.  At the same time, Red Points will become involved in events and other academic activities that the university organises in relation to cybercrime and industrial and intellectual property rights. 

The Managing Director of Red Points, Laura Urquizu, and the General Secretary of UIC Barcelona, Belén Castro, were both present at the signing of the agreement. Laura Urquizu said “Piracy and selling fake products has now reached the equivalent value of the GDP of 150 countries, and for that reason we are delighted to contribute towards training new professionals who will be dedicated to the protection of intellectual property rights on the internet”.  Belén Castro said that “both programmes arose as a response to the growing need for education in the field of the fight against cybercrime and the protection of intellectual property rights.”

The agreement also covers the possibility of cooperating on study programmes and research projects related to the same area.
