A research group led by Dr Mayka Sánchez participates in the I APU Conference on research into childhood cancer in Spain

Dr Sánchez and her team are currently working on the Codysan project, in cooperation with the University of Naples Federico II

On 26 February, the Hospital de la Fe in Valencia hosted the I APU Conference on research into childhood cancer. This first session brought together researchers from the 25 projects in hospitals and research centres that receive funding from the Pablo Ugarte Association (APU).

One of the research projects funded by APU is the Codysan project, led by Dr Mayka Sánchez, a lecturer from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in cooperation with Dr Achille Lolascon, from the University of Naples Federico II. “In our Group we are working on the Codysan project with the aim of researching a rare disease called congenital dyseritropoyetic anemia. With the financial aid we receive from APU, from Adiscon and from the Ramón Areces Foundation, we aim to improve genetic diagnosis of this disease and raise awareness of it among doctors, patients and society in general” explained Dr Sánchez. This is why the following website codysan.eu was created.

Along with the Codysan project, 24 other projects were presented during the conference that have received funding from APU. The project leaders had the opportunity to share their research processes and results . The meeting included a debate on the current situation and the future of research into childhood cancer and the role played by social initiatives in funding it.
