Reyes Carballar wins the second prize in the final of the “Thesis in 4 minutes” competition
The doctorate student represented UIC Barcelona in the competition final organised by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation after winning the semi-final a few weeks ago at the university.
The competition final took place on June 4 at Endesa headquarters. In total there were 12 finalists, one for each of the Catalan universities. The doctoral students had to present the theme of their thesis, key results and significance, within four minutes at most. The presentation had to be understood by a non-specialised audience.
During her intervention, Carballar spoke about the importance of preserving our identity, related to the theme of her thesis on Molecular Biology, which aims to characterise new regulatory mechanisms of CDK Pho85 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Reyes Carballar is part of the New Cyclin research group led by Dr Josep Clotet.
Out of the other finalists, the first prize was awarded to Artem Komissarov, doctoral student from the Pompeu Fabra University, and the third prize (the audience award), to Rubi Medina, doctoral student from UPC.
The competition was organised by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation in collaboration with the Inter-University Council of Catalonia of the Government of Catalonia and Endesa.
