Skype Pal Project, the new tool to help Education students to improve their English

“I’m very happy with the results: I learned a lot about the US and my English is improving bit by bit”, said Joan Chirivella.

The aim behind this new project at UIC Barcelona is to improve the level of English among students in the Faculty of Education.  The sessions will be undertaken via Skype with students from Bryn Mawr College and Haverford College in Pennsylvania.

This initiative was put into practice at the beginning of October, and had a 4-week duration.  The universities provided a guide containing various topics of conversation.

The idea is that two students hold a conversation based on one of the topics for 60 minutes.  During the first half an hour the conversation is in Spanish and the following 30 minutes are in English.

Joan Chirivella said: “I was lucky enough to get on very well with my partner.  I definitely encourage other students to participate (in this project)”.
