UIC Barcelona and Richmond certify a B1 level of English for secondary and upper-secondary school students

The Institute for Multilingualism at UIC Barcelona, in partnership with Richmond - the Santillana Group division that specialises in English language teaching materials -, is helping secondary and upper-secondary school students certify a B1 level of English.

This initiative forms part of the Santillana UIC Barcelona Classroom for Innovation in English Language Teaching, which is directed by Dr Helena Roquet, director of the Institute for Multilingualism.

The tests used to certify a B1 level are based on Richmond materials: High Achievers and Fast Track. The written section of the exam, which takes approximately three and a half hours to complete, tests reading comprehension, listening comprehension and written expression. The written exam will take place on-site at UIC Barcelona. The oral part of the exam will be administered by Institute for Multilingualism lecturers at the students' respective schools.

Last year, around 160 students from schools and centres throughout Catalonia took the written test in the University's Aula Magna. This year, the second edition of the B1 exam will be promoted under the same format: a written exam at UIC Barcelona and the oral exam at the students' schools.
