The UIC Barcelona and Santillana Create Classroom for Innovation in English Language Teaching

A recent collaboration agreement between the UIC Barcelona and publishing house Santillana marked the launch of the Sponsored Classroom for Innovation in English Language Teaching.

As set out in the agreement, the UIC Barcelona and Santillana “agree on the particular importance in the current context of studying and teaching the English language and using innovative teaching methods to support multilingualism in our society”.

The creation of the classroom provides a framework that will make it easier for the two institutions to collaborate on academic projects and social outreach.

The new classroom forms part of and is managed by the UIC Barcelona’s Department of Languages.

COLLABORATION AGREEMENTS

In the early stages of the agreement, the UIC and Santillana will participate in two distinct collaborative efforts. The first will involve introducing English teaching materials in several secondary school subjects in order to increase multilingualism in society. The second will be for the UIC Barcelona to be certified for two levels of English: the B1 level (official language proficiency certificate of Catalan universities, CLUC) based on the High Achievers and Fast Track educational materials put out by Richmond Publishing, which are aimed at secondary school students; and the B2 level (certificate from the Association of Language Centres in Higher Education, ACLES) for students in the last year of secondary school.
