UIC Barcelona brings science to young people at the EspaiCiència of the Saló de l'Ensenyament
Over 100 young people interested in the field of health sciences have participated in the workshops of physiotherapy, bioengineering and biomedical sciences offered by UIC Barcelona to EspaiCiència, within the framework of the recent edition of the Saló de l'Ensenyament
With the aim of showing young people the research and innovation that is being developed at the Sant Cugat Campus in these fields, the University was present in a new edition of the EspaiCiència. Over two days more than 100 young people were able to explore the world of health and scientific research through three workshops linked to physiotherapy, bioengineering and biomedicine.
Participants in the workshop "The Path to Health: Physiotherapy Exploration Workshop with Technology”, had the opportunity to conduct practical and innovative activities ranging from electromyography and dynamometry to stabilometry, discovering the various facets of physiotherapy and its health benefits.
The “Discover Bioengineering" workshop also surprised those interested in this field with a dynamic experience that revealed the relationship between nature and technology. With activities focused on the creation of real-time microspheres and the regeneration of tissues in animals, students have been able to discover how the world around us inspires researchers in designing biomaterials applicable to bioengineering.
Finally, the workshop "Become a Biomedical Engineer for a Few Hours" captivated the attendees with experiments that allowed students to put themselves in the shoes of biomedical researchers. By extracting genetic material or observing bacteria in saliva samples, participants have experienced firsthand the scientific process and its relevance in current biomedical research.
EspaiCiència is an initiative promoted by the Catalan Foundation for Research that promotes the dissemination of research and innovation among citizens, especially young people. Through scientific demonstrations, workshops and other interactive activities, participants can explore and learn about science. The aim is to stimulate the interest of young people in science and technology to foster future vocations in these fields.
