The UIC Barcelona debating team won the II Babel Debating Tournament in Granada, which took place on 20, 21 and 22 October. One of our law students, Pedro Pérez-Cuesta, was awarded the best speaker prize at the tournament.
The event, sponsored by the University of Granada, brought together young people from university clubs in various provinces. Half of the judges were people who have experience in academic debates, and the other half were experts in the various subject areas.
For this edition, the question that was discussed was: “Does the use of new technologies move us towards unique thought?”
The structure of the debate involved an introduction, various refutations, interjections and conclusions. There was a preliminary stage and a final stage. Four groups consisting of six teams each were set up and a league was held between the teams in each group and they faced each other only once.
The two first members of each group to be classified went on to the final stage. The teams which faced each other were UIC Barcelona and Babel 2.
