UIC Barcelona continues its ongoing commitment to the Antena Solidària Trail Pedralbes
For the third consecutive year, the University has participated as the main sponsor of the race in favour of social entities Escuela Moragas and NASCO Feeding Minds, with the involvement of the Physiotherapy and Dentistry departments
The Antena Solidària Trail Pedralbes, the solidarity mountain race that runs through the Sierra de Collserola, celebrated its 8th edition on Saturday 9 November. For the third consecutive year, UIC Barcelona was the main sponsor of this charity race in favour of the Moragas School, a local special education school, and NASCO Feeding Minds. Once again the event was a success, with the participation of 500 runners filling all the available places.
The race began in 2015 with the help of Pedralbes Residence Hall and the Pedralbes Neighbourhood Association. It donates 100% of the annual profits to two NGOs, one local and one international. In line with its social commitment, the University is also actively involved in the race through the participation of students and lecturers of Physiotherapy and Dentistry.
About twenty students from the UIC Barcelona Physiotherapy faculty, led by lecturer Pol Serra, participated as volunteers in the recovery area of the race, offering treatment to any runners who needed it. The Faculty of Dentistry was also involved and took part of the “Run without Resistance” initiative of the National Antibiotic Resistance Plan (PRAN). Different faculties of Dentistry coordinated their cooperation in different events in this annual race to support the PRAN. The dean of the faculty, Dr Lluís Giner, participated in the hike and presented various trophies to the winners at the end of the race.
The winners of the half-marathon this year from first to third place in the men’s category were Jan Castillo, from the La Sportiva team, Joaquín López and Gijs Wagenaar. In the women's category, Maria Chica had the fastest time of 1 hour and 56 minutes, followed by Mireia Blasco and Marina Pérez. In the 10k competitive race Stanislav Popov, Oriol Lario and Paco Muñoz took the top three places. In the women’s category, Patricia Caritj, Eloísa Martínez, physiotherapist of the Moragas School and Laia Perea filled the podium.
As a primary sponsor for the second year, UIC Barcelona has consolidated itself as the main partner of an event with roots in the Pedralbes, Les Corts and Sarria-Sant Gervasi neighbourhoods. Thus, two of the University’s fundamental values become meaningful: commitment to serving others and the promotion of solidarity.
Lightware also collaborated with the event as atechnical partner, with the sponsorship of Aneto, Camp Base, RAL d’Avinyò, Frooty, Tabalers de Sarriá, Expocom, Phoskitos, Cuétara, Kaizen Salud, Collserola Mountain Runners, Caprabo, Novapracosa, Europastry, Vichy Catalan, Leo Boeck and Plátanos Ruiz.
