UIC Barcelona mourns the death of Dr Miquel Cortada
The Universitat Internacional de Catalunya regrets to report that Dr Miquel Cortada y Colomer, the first dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, sadly passed away yesterday.
Dr Miquel Cortada, full professor of oral prostheses in Dentistry, started the Faculty of Dentistry in 1997. As dean of the Faculty, he pushed for the Dentistry degree programme and inaugurated our University Dental Clinic. On 18 July 2007, he capped his academic career by being named full professor of oral prostheses in Dentistry at UIC Barcelona, the first full professorship awarded in the Faculty of Dentistry.
In 2016, the university paid him tribute with the unveiling of the extended Preclinical Laboratory, which bears his name, along with a commemorative plaque. The plaque expresses who Dr Cortada was to UIC Barcelona, a "master among masters", both as a dentist and teacher.
The university community as a whole would like to express our condolences. We offer his family our heartfelt condolences and ask everyone to keep him in your prayers.
