UIC Barcelona, the only university in the country where all students passed their MIR exams
For the second consecutive year UIC Barcelona, according to data from the Ministry of Health, has managed to ensure that all students who entered the MIR exams surpassed the cut-off mark. However while last year our first Medicine graduates shared this privilege with three other universities, this year it was only UIC Barcelona students who managed to achieve this.
Also, 94% of our students were then able to take up a placement. The chosen specialisms were highly varied, and included: Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Family and Community Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Neurology, Traumatology, Gynaecology, etc. Many of them chose centres in Barcelona, such as the Vall d'Hebron Hospital, Hospital del Mar, Bellvitge, Sant Pau, Althaia, Can Ruti, and also Joan XXIII in Tarragona, Son Espases and Sant Llàtzer de Baleares, Hospital Universitario A Coruña, etc.
Dr Albert Balaguer, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UIC Barcelona, stated that he is satisfied with the results obtained: “We have put a lot of hope and hard work into this project and the indicators have proven us right. We are sure that we have some highly educated medicine graduates at both a technical and a personal level”.
The UIC Barcelona Bachelor’s degree in Medicine opened in 2008. It is oriented towards student learning via active academic methodologies with a strong emphasis on information and communication technologies: studying in small groups, case methodology, problem-based learning (ABP), and the intensive use of simulation laboratories, etc. The clinical practicums are mainly carried out in university hospitals (Fundación Althaia de Manresa, Hospital de Granollers and the Hospital General de Cataluya) and in other associated hospitals (Hospital Quirón). Practicums are also carried out in hospitals which include Hospital de Mollet, Hospital Plató, the Pere Virgili Healthcare Centre and the Catalan Oncology Institute.
