UIC Barcelona promotes training in social economy within the framework of a programme led by the Government of Catalonia
The Social Economy programme, formerly known as Aracoop, seeks to value the social and cooperative economy as a strategic business model and transformer of social realities in universities, institutions and companies
UIC Barcelona, through the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, is once again participating in the Social Economy programme, an initiative led by the Government of Catalonia. The main objective of the project is to train transformative business leaders and provide them with the necessary tools and knowledge to successfully manage companies in the social and solidarity economy sector.
In this new edition, UIC Barcelona will participate in a series of academic and management activities designed to promote learning and spread the social economy and the cooperative movement among the university community.
Of particular note among the programmed activities is the teaching of two subjects: Social Entrepreneurship and Impact Investments, led by Dr Nina Magomedova, lecturer and researcher in social economy. These electives will be aimed at students of the University's Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Management.
The project will be led by lecturers and researchers Nina Magomedova, researcher in social economy and author of several studies on the sector; Marta Mas-Machuca, dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, with outstanding experience in research and teaching on innovation and social economy; Frederic Marimon, deputy dean of the faculty, specialising in quality systems and purposeful enterprises; and Anna Akhmedova, PhD in Economics and Social Sciences, with experience in research on social enterprises and collaborative economy.
UIC Barcelona's participation in this programme is part of its Strategic Plan, which prioritises the promotion of social and solidarity entrepreneurship as a central axis. To further strengthen this commitment, the university has launched a new Master’s Degree in Cooperation, Development and Social Economy for the academic year 2024-2025, which will train professionals capable of leading transformative projects in this field.
