UIC Barcelona strengthens ties with Mexico

The Rector Xavier Gil, the Vice-Rector for Academic Organisation and International Relations, Jaume Armengou, the Director of Corporate Development, Charo García Mangas, and Dámaris Gonzalo, the Director of International Promotion, travelled to Mexico last week. The aim of their visit was to set up institutional connections with various Mexican universities, as part of the university’s Strategic Plan.  While there they held a meeting with María Fadl, the person who represents UIC Barcelona throughout America.

The UIC Barcelona plan for internationalisation and promotion considers Mexico to be a strategic point within America.  Therefore the aim of the visit was to promote institutional relations, search for new sources of finance or fundraising, explore new pathways for learning and undertake action for the dissemination and promotion of our university.

Over the course of a week, they visited the  Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo, where they signed a cooperation agreement with this institution.  They also visited the Panamerican University, which has campuses in Aguascalientes, Guadalajara and Mexico City, and the Ibero-American University (City of Mexico), where some students who are already studying at our university come from. The rector also paid a courtesy visit to the University of the Valle de Toluca, where we already give ad hoc courses in the faculties of Dentistry and Law. Within the framework of these visits, both the rector and the vice-rector gave talks based on their own areas of knowledge.

The group also visited the Institute of Philosophical Research at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), with the aim of exploring the possibility of strengthening the areas of research and doctoral studies in the field of humanities. They also visited various schools in Querétaro.

They were also received by the Minister for Education in the Spanish Embassy in Mexico, Enrique Cortés de Abajo, in order to make the university’s internationalisation strategy more visible, and create strategic alliances and promotion support.
