UIC Barcelona wins the MAPFE Foundation’s BugaMAP championship

Our Barcelona Campus also hosted the competition final in which a total of five teams from universities around Catalonia and the Balearic Islands participated

A team consisting of five students from the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences in the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona) won the BugaMAP championship.  The MAPFE Foundation’s championship final was held on Thursday on the Barcelona Campus at UIC Barcelona.

During the various stages of the competition six seminars were held in which a total of 145 UIC Barcelona students participated, as well as students from the University of Lleida, the University of the Balearic Islands, the University of Girona and Abat Oliba CEU University.

The rector of UIC Barcelona, Dr Xavier Gil, handed out the awards, along with the rector of the University of the Balearic Islands, Dr Llorenç Huguet, the head of Institutional Relations and Network Development at MAPFRE, Sergio Sánchez, and the Barcelona representative for the MAPFRE Foundation, Javier Solís.

The vice-rector of UIC Barcelona, Dr Toni Mora, attended the awards ceremony, as well as the dean of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at UIC Barcelona, Dr Marta Mas, the vice-rector for Students and University Quality at Abat Oliba CEU University, Dr Maite Signes, and the director of the Department of Economics and Business at the same university, Rocío Bonilla. Other people in attendance included the dean of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences in the University of Girona, Dr Anna Garriga, and a lecturer from the University of Lleida, Anna García.

At the awards ceremony, Dr Gil thanked all the participants for their involvement in the championship, since it’s main objective matches that of universities: the transfer of knowledge.  On the other hand, Solís indicated that the MAPFE Foundation has been holding the BugaMAP competition for more than 30 years and in more than 16 different countries, and is “a project that without a doubt contributes to young people finding out more about the importance of the insurance sector, which is one of the objectives of the MAPFRE Foundation”.

The MAPFRE business game, known as BugaMAP, is a business simulation game that teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students from numerous countries how the insurance company business works. It does so by helping them to practice taking decisions and simulate the impact these will have on the market quota, results and solvency of the company.
