UIC Barcelona wishes you a Merry Christmas

The lighting of the Christmas tree on 4 December marked the beginning of the activities organised by the University to celebrate this special time of year. A food collection campaign, the Royal Page, Christmas brunches, a Nativity Scene Contest... These were just some of the activities that have been carried out over the past few weeks.

Once again, UIC Barcelona took part in the Food Collection Campaign led by Acción Social Montealegre (ASM), which attends to underprivileged families in the Barcelona district of Raval. From 21 November to 4 December, students, teaching staff and administration and service staff from the University brought food to the collection points set up on both campuses. Altogether we collected 375,010 kg of food, making UIC Barcelona the institution that sent the most food to ASM. The campaign ended with a group of 30 volunteer students handing the food out to families from Raval on Sunday 17 December.

This year, the celebrations kicked off with the lighting of the Christmas tree on the Barcelona Campus. The event was preceded by concerts by a number of student groups, as well as bingo. Just before the lighting, the Rector shared a few words with the attendees and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

A number of different contests have also been held over the past few weeks: nativity scenes, Christmas short stories and drawings, the latter intended for the youngest ones in the family. The University also received a visit from the Royal Page, who collected letters from the children for the Three Kings.

As is now customary, the entire university community had the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with hot chocolate on both campuses. In the Faculty of Education, in addition to refreshments, the teaching staff and students joined together for a Christmas carol sing-a-long. The Institute for Multilingualism was also on hand to treat the university community to nougat and a game in which participants had to listen to Christmas carols and guess which language they were in.

From all of us at UIC Barcelona, Merry Christmas!
