UNIRUN, the university race, gets underway
The ECU (Esport Català Universitari) presents the third edition of the UNIRUN, the university race, at the former factory of Estrella Damm, one of the event's partner organisations. The race is promoted by the twelve Catalan universities, with support from the ECU, the Secretariat-General of Sport, the Barcelona City Council and the Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council, and organised by Gaudium Sports.
The race's 6,779-metre route passes through the Sant Martí district of Barcelona, Port Forum and the La Pau beach in Sant Adrià de Besòs. Anyone associated with the participating universities is eligible to enter: former or future students, lecturers and staff members, relatives, etc.
This is the third year that the race is being held. During the presentation, Gerard Figueras, Secretary-General on Sport, explained that, "the UNIRUN was created to promote sport at university." Also present at the event were Carlos Pérez del Valle, rector of the Abat Oliba CEU University; Joan Callau, mayor of Sant Adrià; and Gabi Arranz, director of Sports Promotion and Events for the Barcelona Sports Institute. This year's edition has a very special sponsor: popular athlete Nicole Ribera.
The starting shot for the UNIRUN will sound at 9.30 in the morning on 5 March, at the Forum's Parc dels Auditoris, and will finish in the same place. Anyone interested in signing up must do so via the race's website: www.unirun.cat, which contains all the information about the event. The deadline for registration is 28 February at 11.59 p.m.
