The University-Company Conference on Nursing celebrates its tenth edition

Fourth year Nursing Degree students from UIC Barcelona were given the chance to spend a morning with nursing directors and other senior figures from the main hospitals of the province of Barcelona. The conference consisted of two round tables with discussions and a central conference session led by Daniel Regaña, head of the department head of processing hospital admissions and criticisms and responsible for innovation in the field of nursing at the Sacred Heart University Hospital. Regaña encouraged the future nurses to never stop innovating and improving in their daily work through maintaining a critical outlook and being guided by scientific evidence.

Taking part in the first round tables were Pedro Garzón and Llum Veiga from the Pere Virgili Health Care Park, María Antonia Insensé from the General Hospital of Catalonia, Oscar Sambola from the Mútua University Hospital of Terrassa and Gemma Gallardo and Lluís Burgués of the Plató Hospital. The participants in the second round table were Mireia Vicente and Gisel Fontanet from the Mollet Health Foundation, Laura San Cristóbal and Silvia Aguirre from the Hospital Clínico, José Rodríguez and Montserrat Massó from the Asilo Hospital in Granollers, Coral Fernández from the Catalan Institute of Health, Elios Yuste and Noemí Obregón from the Hospital Park Taulí and Jesús Esteban and Dolores Pintado from the Moisès Broggi Hospital.

The conference was very well received by the students who are now finishing their degree course and entering the job market. One of the latest pieces of data on UIC Barcelona nursing graduate insertion into the job market issued by the University Quality Assurance Agency shows that 83% of the students are working and that only 1.9% of these started work abroad in their first year. Moreover, over 75% are in full time work with half of them in public healthcare centres and half in private.
