Upper secondary pupils take the plunge into the world of work during #SummerUICBarcelona

Journalism of the future, 3D printing, excursions and round tables among the options sampled by the hundred participants

#SummerUICBarcelona has returned to spice up the summer days at the Barcelona campus with visits from upper secondary pupils. For the second year in a row, the participants were able to take the plunge into the world of work with the help of experts in fields such as business and entrepreneurship, bioengineering, dentistry, communications, medicine and cinema.

From Monday, 9 July to Friday, 13 July, one hundred participants attended sessions including a lecture from the rector, Xavier Gil, who introduced them to nanobioengineering or a session with the director and presenter of the programme Els matins on Catalan TV station, TV3, Lídia Heredia, who told them how this TV show is put together.

Among the sessions split across the six different pathways, a highlight included the class taught on 3D printing and regenerative medicine by the scientific coordinator for the Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering at UIC Barcelona, Román Pérez. Another highlight was the class on how to run a company in the 21st century by the director of the Centre for Excellence in Corporate Governance at Deloitte, Juan Antonio Bordas.

The pupils attended a number of sessions in the morning and the afternoon with different professionals both from UIC Barcelona and from external organisations. UIC Summer included excursions, such as a visit to the SEAT factory in Martorell accompanied by Carlos Banús from the post-sale market management department at the car manufacturer. On the bioengineering and biomedical pathway, the pupils attended the Sant Cugat campus where they were able to visit the laboratories and clinical simulation units, while on the communications pathway, the pupils went to the head offices of ARA newspaper, among other visits.
