Vidal and Perdiguer publish a chapter about using gamification to teach mathematics

The lecturers discussed their experience using the Scratch programming language with students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education.

Digital competence is a fundamental tool in today's increasingly high-tech world of education, as well as a source of motivation for students. The vice-dean of the Faculty of Education, Salvador Vidal, and lecturer Eva Perdiguer know this all too well, which is why they have published a chapter detailing their in-class experience using gamification to teach mathematics.

More specifically, their collaboration is entitled “La gamificación, metodología utilizada en la didáctica de las matemáticas en el grado de Educación Primaria de la Facultad de Educación de la UIC Barcelona” [Gamification: The methodology for teaching mathematics in the Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education in the Faculty of Education at UIC Barcelona]. A chapter that appears in the book Propuestas docentes para un nuevo currículum universitario [Teaching Ideas for a New University Curriculum], which is available as part of Editorial Tecnos’ University Editions collection.

This chapter explains their experience using the Scratch programming language with students from the subject Teaching and Learning Mathematics, part of the Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education. A subject in which students are required to programme interactive multimedia games that help motivate students to learn maths and reinforce the curricular content.
