The protagonists of this event were Ramón Lobo and Mikel Ayestarán, war journalists and writers with a well-recognised professional trajectory. The session was moderated by Nico Valle, a journalist from TV3’ international section who is also a Professor in the Faculty.

The presentation involved reflections from the three journalists on the state of the profession, “Precariousness is killing the profession.  Young people without any experience are searching for a good photograph on the front line in a war zone "said Nicolás Valle. They also discussed the function of journalism in society:  “My job involves throwing out the information like a stone; the reaction to that is a task I leave to civil society”, “Although it seems like they are not listening to us, we continue to be a necessary voice to ensure that democracy can exist”, said Ramón Lobo.

Mikel Ayestarán underlined the fact that “there are no longer any role models” in the profession and that “war correspondents have their own voice and brand, beyond the media company they work for”.  The three all agreed that “we are very aware of what is happening in other media sources”, and that editors are afraid of a genuine product. 

Media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was also discussed, “Everything has already been written about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  The only thing missing now is political action”, said Mikel Ayestarán, who is currently covering conflict in the Middle East. 

At the end of the session, the audience talked to the journalists and our first year journalism students from the Faculty of Communication Sciences covered the event by interviewing the journalists and the audience members. Jordi Évole was an unexpected audience member at this event.
