This year the UNIV Forum focuses on the transformative power of work
Close to seventy university students came along to our Barcelona Campus on Saturday 23 February to present their talks. The Univ Forum, which is celebrating its tenth edition this year at UIC Barcelona, focused on “the transformative power of work”.
The Forum began with a short introduction to the different talks, in classrooms. Each student or group had fifteen minutes to present their talk. Dr Carmen Llovet, a lecturer in the Faculty of Communication Sciences; Dr Frederic Marimon, from the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences; Dr Miquel Solans, from the Faculty of Law, and Dr Esther Calbo, from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, were the moderators of these sessions.
22 group projects were presented. By university, a total of 42 UIC Barcelona students participated, 26 students from Abat Oliba University, Pompeu Fabra University, the University of Girona, BarcelonaTech (UPC), ESADE, the Universitat, Autònoma de Barcelona and the University of Barcelona.
The moderators evaluated the various presentations. Out of this first selection the best talks will be sent to a jury which will decide, in the next few weeks, the three best to enter the final which will take place at Easter in Rome. The winners will receive financial aid to fund their trip and attend the conference.
The Forum ended with a talk entitled “Work as an opportunity for improvement”, given by Antonio González-Barros, founder and president of INTERCOM. González Barros talked about how work can become an opportunity for improvement, about the qualities that are currently popular among professional profiles and market trends. He said “it is not degrees that lead to job opportunities, but people who lead to job opportunities”. The speaker underlined a desire to help others, the ability to take risks, to overcome difficulties and optimism as the qualities that are currently being sought in professional profiles.
