Research interests

Estic interessat en els mecanismes moleculars de l'aprenentatge i la memòria, i en el seu deteriorament en malalties neurodegeneratives i psiquiàtriques. La meva recerca pretén entendre com s'emmagatzema la informació al sistema nerviós, des de la sinapsi individual fins a la xarxa neuronal. Un aspecte clau de la meva recerca és l'ús de tecnologies avançades basades en la llum, com ara la microscòpia multifotònica, l'optogenètica i la fotofarmacologia. Desenvolupo nous mètodes i aplicacions d'aquestes tecnologies per visualitzar i manipular, en temps real, els esdeveniments de plasticitat neuronal a múltiples nivells: circuits (per exemple, ones cerebrals), neurones, i sinapsis individuals (per exemple, potenciació i depressió a llarg termini). A més aplico aquests mètodes per desenvolupar fototeràpies basades en fotofarmacologia per a malalties com els trastorns de l'espectre autista i l'epilèpsia.
