UIC 28 Strategic Plan
A strategic plan with purpose
On October 2 2023, UIC Barcelona celebrated its first 25 years as a university. During this time, the university has consolidated itself in teaching and research, and has positioned itself in important rankings of international prestige. Our commitment to society drives us to answer its needs through excellence in teaching, impact research, personal education, and an international approach.
As a roadmap for the University in the coming years, we have developed the UIC 28 Strategic Plan, a strategy with purpose created with the broad participation of the university community.
Work on its development began at the end of 2022 and was completed in April 2024. During that time, reports from international agencies and internal quantitative and qualitative data were analysed. Advice from experts in the fields of research, teaching and civil society was followed, and a comparative study of strategic plans of universities of international prestige was carried out. The participation of the university community was also facilitated through surveys focused on diagnosis and strategic proposals, and the definition of the purpose and missions of stakeholders.
As a result of these actions, 4 strategic lines were defined, each one with 3 core ideas, in which objectives and indicators were specified through working meetings and workshops of analysis and reflection with people from different areas. 8 sponsors, 35 leaders and 97 work teams are participating in the 68 projects included in the Strategic Plan. Until its completion in December 2028, a process of quarterly monitoring and review of projects and annual update cycles is also planned.

Our purpose
With the active participation of a broad representation of the university community and in line with the mission, vision and values of UIC Barcelona, the purpose and missions with which we serve the different groups emerged.
Objectives of the Strategic plan
The UIC 28 Strategy aims to position us as a university of reference in Catalonia, prepared to respond to the challenges posed by society. To achieve this, an interdisciplinary global education will be offered with a solid humanistic base and digital knowledge that will prepare students for an active citizenship at the service of people and the environment. The strategic lines will be the basis of the University’s mission:
Strategic lines and central concepts
Humanist
Together with the scientific and technological training required by today’s society, it is essential to provide students with a humanistic training that nurtures a comprehensive vision. UIC Barcelona aims to promote a transverse interdisciplinary training that addresses fundamental questions about the human being and the world, while also seeking scientific progress. It will provide a transformative educational experience that leads to committed citizens who think deeply about the world.
Innovative
New technologies have disrupted work and led to changes in the way we understand the world. Digitisation, artificial intelligence and automation have had an impact on any qualification and the relevant knowledge and skills are necessary for working in any profession. UIC Barcelona aims to promote innovation to integrate the latest technologies and methodologies in teaching, research and management.
Global
UIC Barcelona is aware that it must prepare its students for a global world. Our learning model must include tools that foster the capabilities to analyse and respond to intercultural and global issues. We want to provide a global vision to analyse and appreciate different perspectives and visions of the world and respond to the common good and sustainable development. Together with this global vision, which encompasses the local and the international, interdisciplinarity will provide an approach that allows for dialogue between different areas of knowledge.
Sustainable
The care of people and the environment must be the guiding light of UIC Barcelona in teaching, research, government and management. Accordingly, research will continue to be promoted in all areas and. Research focused on key issues related to the University’s mission will be strengthened. Social, environmental and governance factors will be present in management and decision-making, in accordance with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) criteria, to nurture long-term a competitive, sustainable University that has a positive impact on society.
