Every spring since the 2014-2015 academic year, the Institute for Multilingualism has organised a research seminar. Its main objective is to exchange research interests related to applied linguistics and multilingual education with lecturers from other universities and other faculties at UIC Barcelona.

Each year other universities take part, such as the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Barcelona, the Pompeu Fabra University, the University of Navarra and Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (University of the Basque Country).

The main research lines carried out at the Institute for Multilingualism and the MULTIMAT Research Group are concerned with analysing a range of foreign language learning environments. We are primarily interested in the development of multilingualism through naturalistic, immersion and formal language acquisition.
