"Biomanufacturing the Future: Biodigital Architecture & Genetics", by Alberto T. Estévez

Centre for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development (CDRSP) Escuela Superior de Tecnología e Gestión en Leiria (Portugal)

On 15 December, Dr Alberto T. Estevez will take part as a keynote speaker in the international conference Advanced Research in Sustainable Intelligent Manufacturing | RESIM 2016, which is due to take place at the School of Technology and Management in Leiria (Portugal) from 14-17 December 2016.

Under the title "Biomanufacturing the Future: Biodigital Architecture & Genetics", Dr Estévez will present his latest research and the teaching activities he carries out as part of the Genetic Architectures Research Group (GRC) and the Master's Degree in Biodigital Architecture at the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, with regards to the application of genetics and biomanufacturing in architecture. Since 2000, the Genetic Architectures Research Group has taken an inter-disciplinary approach to and explored the application of genetics in architecture from two perspectives: a natural perspective, with the latest biological techniques, and an artificial perspective, with the latest digital techniques. During the conference, Dr Estévez will also present the group's latest project "The Scales System Pavilion".

RESIM 2016 is a biannual conference organised by the Leiria Polytechnic Institute's Centre for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development (CDRSP) and is designed to be a major forum for the scientific exchange of multi-disciplinary and inter-organisational aspects of smart and sustainable manufacturing and related areas.

Alberto T. Estévez holds a PhD in Architecture. He is a full professor, designer and art historian and has run his own professional studio in Barcelona since 1983. He is currently vice-rector/general manager at UIC Barcelona, director of the University Master's Degree in Biodigital Architecture and lecturer in Architectural Projects, Architectural Composition and Art History at the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture.
