Closing ceremony of the 2020-2021 sports season
Next Friday 28 May, UIC Barcelona’s Aula Magna lecture theatre will host the closing ceremony for the 2020-2021 sports season. Starting at 6.30 p.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m., the event will feature former professional football player and coach Juan Carlos Unzué, who set aside his professional career to battle amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Unzué will give a presentation titled “Don't count the days, make the days count” in which he will talk about his personal struggle against ALS and values such as effort, overcoming the odds and sacrifice.
The former professional football player will also be accompanied by swimmer Daniel Rossinés, who is taking part in the Upside Down Challenge to raise funds for ALS research.
The event will follow all health and safety measures and will comply with the COVID-19 mitigation protocols established by the healthcare authorities. Please complete and submit the registration form (AVAILABLE HERE) to attend the event, which has a limited capacity.
Itinerary
- 6 p.m. Welcome and opening of the event by Esther Jiménez, vice-rector for the University Community
- 6.15 p.m. Presentation about the Sports Service during the 2020-2021 academic year by Ernest Martínez, head of Sports at UIC Barcelona
- 6.30 p.m. Talk: “Don't count the days, make the days count” by Juan Carlos Unzué, former professional football player and coach, and entrepreneur and swimmer Daniel Rossines who is taking part in the Upside Down Challenge.
- 8 p.m. End of the closing ceremony for the 2020-2021 sports season
