“From Fabra to GIEC” conference

Institute for Multilingualism Auditorium of Faculty of Education

UIC Barcelona is taking part in the Fabra Year commemorating 150 years since the birth of the Catalan linguist and grammarian and 100 years since the publication of his Catalan grammar book.  The conference will be given by Dr Neus Nogué (University of Barcelona) on 16 November at 3.15 p.m. in the Auditorium of Faculty of Education, entitled "From Fabra to GIEC: The model for Catalan-speaking universities”.

The conference will run through the codification process of the Catalan language from Fabra’s Gramàtica catalana [Catalan grammar book] published in 1918 to the Gramàtica de la llengua catalana (GIEC) book brought out by the Institute for Catalan Studies in 2016. The conference intends to review how this language standardisation model has been adopted by universities and adapted in different university style guides.

This event is taking place as part of the Vives Forum for language specialists in the Vives Universities Network.
