Foros 2019 | Bêka&Lemoine: "The Experience of Space"

UIC Barcelona School of Architecture Filmoteca de Catalunya (Sala Laya)

Video-artists Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine will come to Barcelona to deliver a lecture and screen part of their filmography, characterised by its use of new audiovisual narratives to analyse contemporary architecture and urban settings. On 9 April, in the afternoon, the duo will give a lecture entitled “The Experience of Space” at the Filmoteca de Catalunya and present a film cycle that is scheduled to run from 9 to 11 April. Bêka&Lemoine are due to appear at the Filmoteca as part of the 2019 Foros lecture series “Identities”, organised by the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture.

In their presentation, Bêka&Lemoine will use excerpts from their films to discuss the evolution of their cinematographic work, which has led them to adopt a radical position against the main strategies of representation in architecture. The lecture will be followed by a screening of Homo Urbanus (Bogotanus + Tokyoitus) (2018), a project undertaken in 7 major cities, which seeks to comprehend the challenges associated with the massification of urban life.

On 10 and 11 April, the Filmoteca de Catalunya will hold two double sessions featuring four more of the video-artists’ films, the complete works of who were recently purchased by the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA). As a result, the films Koolhaas Houselife (2013) and Moriyama-San (2017) will be shown on 10 April, while Selling Dreams (2016) and The Infinite Happiness (2015) can be seen the following day.

This year, Foros, an annual series of lectures about architecture, revolves around the title “Identities”. Its programme looks to contribute to the debate on the concept of identity in contemporary architecture, strongly marked by the present trends in globalisation. For the second straight year, the series has been organised in partnership with BBConstrumat.
