Dictionary of Religions, State of the Question, and additional tools for understanding religion

Saló de Graus

To mark the completion of the inter-university project RELIG 2023-24, led by the Faculty of Communication, this conference is organised to present the ‘Dictionary of Religions, State of the Question’. The study is the result of an intense academic collaboration that analyses the state of the question in the field of religious diversity, offering a key tool for the understanding and proper treatment of religion, especially in the media.

The day will be attended by the Directorate General for Religious Affairs, the Interreligious Council of Catalonia (GTER) and the Audiovisual Council of Catalonia (CAC). All are prominent and key actors in promoting tools and fostering respect and tolerance toward religious diversity, such as the "Recommendations on Reporting on Religion" and the new "Barometer of Religiosity in Catalonia".

This joint event will serve to present these complementary tools that offer reliable information to encourage an informed and respectful public debate about religion in Catalonia. To this end, a conference has been designed that combines the presentation of the results of the study, the importance of the informative recommendations and the relevance of the Barometer of Religiosity, all in an open format that allows interaction with the audience.

It is a unique opportunity for communication professionals, experts in religion and the public to better understand religious diversity found in Catalonia and how it should be treated respectfully and rigorously in the media. The ultimate goal is to improve coexistence and promote mutual understanding in an increasingly pluralistic society.

We invite you to attend this presentation that will allow us to jointly explore the tools that facilitate an adequate and respectful treatment of religion within our social and media environment.
