Students describe their experiences
At UIC Barcelona we encourage people to feel a passion for communicating and telling the truth
Taking a degree in Journalism at UIC Barcelona has made me realise the importance of our role in society and of human relations in our profession. Not only in the classroom, but also in radio studios, while commentating or on the TV set. While editing the final product, presenting the news, or spending time behind the camera, you realise that teamwork and commitment are key elements. All of this unique learning has opened up the reality of the media to me, where I am currently doing a work placement at RAC1, where I have had an incomparable experience, reporting on different events live: from concerts, to political meetings… and at La Vanguardia newspaper, where I have been able to tackle the more reflective and rigorous side of journalism. While always pursuing the ultimate goal of rigorous and good quality journalism.
When you are about to finish high school, you are overwhelmed by doubts. You feel like you're going to make the most important decision of your life. That everything you've done over the last few years has taken you up to that moment and you are scared you could make the wrong choice. I have always wanted to be a journalist and that’s why I volunteered on the radio and TV in el Prat de Llobregat for many years. I learnt a lot there and discovered the vocation I’d always had for knowledge and communication, but I also realised how the media is changing and that in the current context it’s important to master the technical side, new formats, new channels and narratives, in order to become a more competent professional. Due to the opportunity offered to me to study this double degree programme at UIC Barcelona, I now have the knowledge and tools that are necessary to ensure my message can reach people in any different way and in any format. I continue to cultivate my curiosity and desire to communicate, I feel like I am on the right path and am ready for any professional challenges I may face.

Presentation
The double degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication offered at UIC Barcelona responds to a growing demand for communicators with skills to work not only in the field of information and writing news stories but also in the world of audiovisual creation and expression. It is a professional profile that is booming, since the versatility of a communicator is one of the main qualities sought by the print media, media agencies and different media companies or institutions.
On the other hand, the current multimedia context requires professionals with solid intellectual and ethical training to work with information, as well as creatives who can communicate through audiovisual means. Moreover, as the boundaries between information and entertainment are becoming increasingly blurry, professionals who have the ability to work in both areas will have gained significant added value.
Since these are two degrees taught at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, the large number of subjects that are shared or complementary facilitates this double degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication, since it offers students greater learning and professional opportunities. All of these elements contribute towards a very attractive, multidisciplinary and polyvalent profile, with a solid background for a wide range of jobs within the field of communication.
Double and complementary learning in the journalistic and audiovisual field opens up many more professional opportunities. Achieving the education required to excel in both fields of communication in just five years is a strategic opportunity that, above all, creates professional synergies at the highest level. That is why a professional trained in both fields is a highly sought-after profile to lead work teams, devise programmes and create new content for communication companies.
