124 international students take part in the UIC Barcelona Welcome Sessions

The Welcome Sessions were held across 1, 2 and 3 September for all international exchange students who will be studying for either a semester or an entire academic year at UIC Barcelona. A total of 124 students of 27 different nationalities took part.

An institutional presentation day was held on 1 September on both the Barcelona and Sant Cugat Campus, in order to cover all fields of study. The presentations offered information on academic and logistical matters to provide the students with all the information they need for their stay. A "Catalan for Dummies" and a cultural workshop took place on 2 September to introduce the students to the Catalan language. Finally, to close the session on day 3, the students took a bus and walking tour of the city, led by official guides, to discover everything they need to know about Barcelona.

An exciting new chapter and a wonderful learning experience

Christine Verios is from Syria, but has been living in Sweden. This semester she will be studying on the Business Administration and Management programme at UIC Barcelona, and explains how she was looking forward to coming to Barcelona and meeting new people. “I think that after meeting so many new people I’ll be more open, as I’ll have had the chance to discover new cultures, traditions and ways of seeing the world”.

Danna Galiano is from Colombia and will be studying Communication. She chose to come to UIC Barcelona for its curriculum. “When I was looking at the curriculum and the Course Guides, I was drawn by the university's specialisation in audiovisual production, which is where I would like to work in the future”.

Andrés Caloca Jiménez from Mexico will study Business Administration and Management, and is really looking forward to this new chapter away from home. He is hoping to make new friends, practice sports and also learn a lot. “Academically, I think the style of the classes will be different, because there is a lot more back and forth with the teachers compared with my classes in Mexico, where learning is more independent. So I hope this system will benefit my learning”. Marthe van Rompaey, an Architecture student from Belgium, agrees: “I think the classes here will be small as the university is very focused on its students. I think it is system that works very well”, she says.
