UIC Barcelona campuses are filled with solidarity and social action on the annual UIC Social Day
Throughout the morning, the university community carried out seven social action missions for ten local social organisations, as well as a donation collection point from Càritas Valencia to help families affected by the Dana disaster
UIC Barcelona celebrated a new edition of UIC Social Day, the annual solidarity event, last Wednesday 13 November. One again, the campuses filled with people in need, volunteers and managers of local social entities to bring solidarity and the social world closer to the university community, especially students.
“The purpose of today is to raise awareness of the importance of volunteering and helping those who need it most. This is why we invited different social entities to bring this reality closer to the whole university community,” explained Daniel Bonfills, head of Solidarity at the university.
This year on the two campuses, ten social entities collaborated : Aste BCN, Llar d’Avis Mira-Sol, Càritas Terrassa, the Assís Shelter, the AIS Association (Aid for Children without Resources), Casa Guadalupe, Hogar de María, Ludàlia, Aura Foundation and T-OIGO. A stand was also added for donations to Càritas Valencia to help with the emergency situation due to the Dana disaster in Valencia.
Despite the rain, throughout the morning the entire university community was able to join the volunteer activities that were organised on the campuses. Everyone was able to share some time with volunteers and people who use the services. “For the first time, this year, users from two organisations came to the university and we had a pleasant time playing board games with them,” said Bonsfills.
UIC Social Day is one of the solidarity activities organised by Student Services as part of UIC Barcelona university life. The day aims to promote volunteering and participation in all social actions organised by the University throughout the year, as part of its social commitment.
Once again, catering companies Eurest and BePers of the Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya collaborated by donating food for the Càritas and Centre d’Acollida Assís charity breakfasts.
